Ok, im puttin in new speakers. Tryin to get rid of my ghetto set up of hear and there walmart parts, and pawn shop stuff. I think ive spent almost as much money trying to save money, and keep replacing my crappy purchases so im gonna do it right from the start.

For those of you who have had both 6x8s and 6.5s which did you prefer? which sounded better? what brand did you get, and approximatly how much? Thnx

5x7's...they fit in the stock holes and sound pretty nice. $200 or so. 6x8's are alright too.

Do you mean regular one-way (no attached tweeter, super tweeter, etc) 6x8s as opposed to regular 6.5s?

If you get any kind of 6x8 that is more than a one-way speaker, the 6.5s are going to sound much better. If you want sound quality, always go for component speakers (separate midbass, separate tweeter) because they will sound better than any 5x7/6x8 speaker. They usually come with crossovers, and because each piece does not waste power with frequencies it can't reproduce, SQ is improved.

I have only got 5.25" components from Audiobahn. The ABC5002 model with the 5.25" midbass and 25 mm tweeter. I have them mounted in the kickpanels... Cost about $220. Right now my speakers that run off of the HU are Pioneer 5x7s, they are not anything fantastic, but I am only giving them about 15 watts each from the HU and using them for fill. The components and tweeters that get 420 watts deliver most of the music.

Either component or 2-3 way. I figured that component would sound better, but don't know if i can dish out $500 for 2 pairs of speaker right now, i want the be sound for best price. i know 5x7s will fit too, i have a set in there now. I was figureing since 6x8s were a bit bigger they should beable to handle a bit more power and a little deeper range, bu t i know it depends on the speaker, Y ford can't use 6x9's ill never know.

How about 6 1/2 2-way speakers?

If you look at my post on amps it will show my plann of attack for redoing my system.

Thnx

ear drum

i think round speakers are supposedly better sounding because of the more uniform sound wave they produce. evey where you look speakers are round....live concert speakers, radio speakers, you name it.......except in cars(am i missing something or do car manufacturers invent things just for the heck of it "hey i know, since we have a space 9x4 inches lets put in the biggest speaker possible, who cares if it's round or not")

I went with the Alpine R typer 5x7 in my front door. The only problem with doing componets in the front doors is the stupid factory grill. When you build a plate to mount them either the tweeter or the woofer is partially blocked. The way around this is to either flush mount or surface mount the tweeter some place on the door.

I like my 3-way 6.5s for the same reason explortainment does. I moved the pioneer 5x7s i had in the front to the rear and put those in, and there is a world of difference.
