I have a 91 Eddie Bauer 4x4 with 61k and replaced a broken flexplate at 38k.Two days latter it went out and took the tranny with it.Replaced both w/new (ford)flexplate and new tranny.2k later flexplate#3 went out and this time replaced w/new ford bellhouseing.3k later both flexplate and tranny go out again. New "flexplate,torqueconverter,spacer,tranny"so..on and so..on to #6 this time the tranny shop says they are done with it. There is a vibration at idle and gets worse in park or neutral even after they replace every thing. The crank seal doesn't leak nor does the pump seal in the bellhouseing so I don't know were the movement is coming from to keep braking the ******* flexplate. Please HELP...HELP..If any one has had similar problems let me know.

Thank you, Rob

sounds like an incompetant shop. was this a ford place? maybe you have a bad damper on the engine causing the vibration or the tranny isnt getting bolted to and lined up with the oil pan like it should.

Fordkrazy, No it wasn't done at the dealership, but they recommended the shop.I have gone to another shop and have asked them if they had any idea as to what it could be...no go.
What is a damper on the engine?..(harmonic balancer)? Please let me know I will try anything at this point.
Thanks Rob

yea i was talking about the harmonic balancer. maybe they used the wrong flexplate? you should also check anything that has to do with the alignment of the tranny and engine. like the mounts for both. maybe the torque converter mounting surface is warped? other than that i cant see why you would break so many flexplates. this is truely unusual!!
