6 cd changer keeps jaming, is this common?

First off I apologize if this is not the right place for this question. About September of '07 I accidentally tried to insert a blank cd in my cd changer and the whole thing jammed. About 3 weeks later the cd ejected itself one day when I turned on the truck and all was fine. Two weeks after Christmas I put a brand new cd in and the whole thing jammed again. This time the cd didn't come out until about 2 weeks ago (so, out of commission for about 4 months). A couple of days ago it jammed again and i'm about ready to go crazy. Before I haul it off to a dealer to get it fixed I wanted to check to see if this was a common problem or if there was some way I can fix this myself (or a handy guy friend). I heard shutting power off helps but also that some explorers need a code to restart it and honestly I don't want mess it up any worse than the cd player.

Any help would be appreciated, and again, if I'm in the wrong forum, please point me in the right direction!

It's a ford unit...I wouldn't expect much from it. But personally I don't like Ford even though I own one lol.

Disconnecting the battery for a good hour or more sometimes helps with electronic logic circuitry. In the end it may be cheaper to buy a spare changer unit, eBay. Good luck,
