I have a factory 6 CD changer and it randomly skips or if i hit a slight bump it'll skip. is that normal or it is going bad?

ya'll think i should get a new one w/ skip proof stuff or just live w/ the skipping?

if so what brands have the best 6 CD changer that'll fit the stock HU?

I had a factory changer too and had the same problem. My guess is that it skips so easily because it's located in the center console. I really don't think that it's anything to worry about.

I have a aftermarket 6-disk changer (pioneer) and its in my center console and it hasnt skipped once.

yeah i went to curcuit city today and asked them about a new one and to just get a new changer i'd have to pay over 400 for one b/c the converters are so expensive! i'll just live w/ it. when i change the HU i'll go ahead and change the changer while i'm at it.it will be for less b/c you don't ahve to buy the converter.

will you explain the MP3 thing for me. is it liek my winamp in my car?

MP3 is an audio format that allows about 100 songs to be recorded on a single CD.

You must have an MP3 player HU for it to work.

Digger? 400 bucks? I spent 130 for mine.... there is no way it should cost you 400 bucks.

Take a look at Dead Link Removed for information on MP3.

it was 150 for the converter and another 250-300 for the 6 cd changers over there.

so what type of CD is this? regular 80 min burnable CD or are they different and do i burn it w/ the cd writer i have?

regular cd, just burn it as data instead of music. Oh yeah, you can by a whole new head unit/ cd changer for less money then that. Also there is no was a converter should cost that much.

i was think the same thing.

so you guy are think i should go the MP3 way and can i still run the 6 cd changer and the MP3 or do i have to ditch the 6 CD changer in all?

my headunit is mp3 and i still have a six disk changer (i like some of my orginal cd's) I dont know I can just tell a difference between an orginal CD and when I transfer it to am mp3. I guess I got sensetive ears.

what HU you got, how much was it and where ya get it?

off ebay Deh mp8400p pioneer. CHeck my System installed W7 style for pictures. $560 in stores, i got it for 380. Its a top of the line head unit, has anything you want. I wouldnt really suggest it if your not gonna throw mega money into subs and stuff because you wouldnt be using half or the special things it has.

thanks man. anyone else w/ a MP3 HU in Explorer?

Digger196 - Did you ever have Ford reinforce your CD changer? There was a Technical Service Bulletin for '95-'98 Explorers with the 6 CD changer that skips frequently. The fix involves adding a cuple of brackets and bolting them to the floor (under the console). You can't see it once it is fixed. Mine used to skip badly. Now I can't remember the last time it has skipped (probably before I had mine fixed 4 years ago). To have it fixed now though, Ford would charge you. You could probably buy the parts for $10 though and do it yourself.

skipping

Here`s the solution. I did have the same prob, so I dismantaled the consol and the CD changer istsef , took it out of the console and on the side of your cd there is a adjustment for this there is 2 settings , one for Horizontal playing and one for vertical playing, mine was not set to the correct adjusment. since then no prob what so ever ! no jumping or skipping at all.

Good Luck !

I have An Aiwa CDC-MP3 player with a matching Aiwa 6-disc I might be interested in selling. If you think you might want it, make me an offer or send me an e-mail at JMT1SOMR@aol.com for any other inquiries.
