6 Disc in dash head unit

I need help, not thinking I bought from a junk yard the 6 disc in dash changer head unit for my ’03 Sport Trac. Turns out w/ out the sub there is no bass. Is there any way I can get the head unit to put out low end? And how hard is it to hook up and aftermarket sub to the head unit?

If its similar to my '04 ex, i added the stock sub enclosure, i have a post detailing 'upgrading an audiophile sub' where i go into a lot of detail. Wasn't hard or expensive.

I might have the same cd6 radio and what i discovered is the radio would only put out a sub signal if the factory sub amp was plugged in. I don't know how/why and you might want to confirm it. But i wired from the radio straight to the aftermarket subamp to discover silence. After messing with it for a while, i wound up using speaker level inputs with the stock sub amp.The radio 'cuts' any signal to doors at 150hz and sends the rest to the subamp. It will sound like crap without a sub.
