6" Skyjacker lift

ok

i think i am beginning to understand all of this.

i will probably go with the 6" skyjacker lift for the front (does anyone know how much that will cost?) and go with a soa in the back using the superlift spring perches. what about the pitman arms i have read on here? i dont know what they are or what they do? could someone help me out with that

6 inch skyjacker comes two ways. First is the standard front kit that includes drop brackets and coils around 600, the pittman arm runs about 75 bucks, this is fir your steering, second is the class II kit, it runs around 1200 bucks, and includes the pittman arm, as well as extended radius arms, and mounts. either way you will need to buy extended brake lines, they are sperate, as well as shocks for the standard, the class II includes these.

alright

and just to be sure. the 600 dollar kit and the 1200 kit only lift the front correct? i will also have to pay around 150 dollars to buy the superlift spring perches for the back.

That is correct

hey i have a 91 4x4 xlt and i was wondering wat was second and first generation ment?? also are the lifts easy to put on yoursleves?

gens

a first generation explorer is an explorer from 91-94
a second generation explorer is 95- ?

lifts can be put on without taking it to a shop, i have two friends with lifted jeep cherokees and they said it wasnt hard, but time consuming. I will probably have them help me put mine on.

To install the lift, you will need a grinder, some good jacks, jack stands, pitman arm puller, spindle nut socket, and a few minor specialty hand tools like for brakes. You can rent these at any Schucks or AutoZone. Other than that just hand tools. The Explorer is much more complicated than the Cherokee but still easy enough if you have friends and any clue.

For the lift:
Both Superlift and Skyjacker are great lifts. Superlift has had some problems but has fixed them. Unkike the Skyyacker, their kits fit the truck like they should. Their customer service is also top notch. My budy runs the Skyjacker and I have the Superlift. He had much more trouble with his than I did. But he has never broken anything like I have. He runs the 4" Stage II with a 2" body lift, nitro shocks, 4" rear springs, and the superrunner steering. I run the Superlift 5.5", extended radius arms, superrunner steering, SOA rear, RS9000 shocks, and ProComp add-a-leaf. I couldn't quote you prices but I have less invested then he does with twice the ride. For a daily driver such as mine, I strongly suggest the superrunner steering for any kit. You will need a drop pitman arm either way you go. I have drove my explorer cross-country twice now. Mine rides better than stock, handles better than stock, and flexes better than the Skyjacker. Mine also rides better then his. I believe this is due to the SOA and RS9000s. I removed the rear swaybar and modified some front swaybar disconnects from a CJ7. The extended radius arms ride a lot better also.

4wheelparts.com shows the Superlift 6" (5.5) with RS9000 and SOA for $900 (free shipping). I bought my Superrunner steering from them for $350 including shipping. Extended brake lines are about $120 and the Extended radius arms if you buy it with the kit is around $275.

I have almost a complete brand new Superlift kit sitting in my garage waiting for me to get home and install. Superlift warrenteed a bunch of my parts so the only used parts I will have on my truck is the springs. I wish I could make up my mind on a SAS and I could make you a deal.

Sorry for rambeling. Hope this gives you some ideas.

What do SAS and SOA mean, Sorry for the nOOb question.

sas and soa

sas stands for solid axle swap and soa stands for spring over axle

2nd Gen - 95-01
2.5 - Mid 01.
3rd Gen -02 and up.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Wouldn't be the first time! :D

I put my kit on myself. Took about 40 hrs and basic hand tools. Pretty straight forward. directions are pretty easy. Get a good 1/2" drill bit too. You will have to drill a few holes. I'd say get the 6er, you won't regret it. I bought my spring perches from jegs.com and they were pretty cheap. I had my local mechanic weld them on and he set the angles and everything. Did a fine job too. cheaper than the super lift brackets too.

Any questions, feel free to ask. Make sure you ask all the questions you need answered first before you start. You want to know everything you can possibly know before you start. I resarched for over a year before I did mine.

later

Andy
