My explorer has had the dreaded 60mph+ shakes since before I can remember. I've changed out three things around the same time so I'm not sure which cured the problem. I did my balljoints/tie rods, put in eccentric camber adjusters and changed the u-joints on the driveshaft. Neither of those seemed to fix the shakes. I let about two months passby without getting an alignment.
Finally got the alignment and the car was an absolute dream to drive through all the way up to 80 mph, haven't gone faster, but it didn't seem like it would start shaking again.
My first thought is that the eccentric camber adjusters let the alignment come closer to specs to get rid of the shakes.
I've never been able to get rid of the vibrations with just an alighment.
One thing though that I found odd when changing the U-joints is that on one end one cap was bone dry. Not sure if that could cause the driveshaft to be unbalanced enough to start the shakes.
Thought I'd pass along the information for those with the shakes. Hope it helps.
