I have an 06 4.6L explorer and when I was adding tranny fluid the whole end of it snapped off. Will it damage my tranny if I drive it with it loose in there? Since it’s plastic I can’t use a magnet to fish it out, is my only option to drop the pan? Any advice helps

I would not think it would harm anything because the transmission filter would stop it before it could go anywhere. But I would not want anything floating around in my transmission, plus just knowing it is in there would make me lose sleep. Dropping the pan would be the easiest way to get it out.

If you can't put the dipstick in and get it back out, leave it out. It has no function except to cap the hole and check the fluid level. If it fell down in there, it won't do any harm, it'll set down onto the bottom of the pan, nothing moves there.

Did the same at 150k. Left it in there, and haven't seen changes. Currently @ 220k.

Update: dropped pan @ 223k, i thought it would be sitting right there, but it wasn't. I'm thinking it got sucked up by filter.
I'd cut it open, but received the wrong filter (checked the ad, and it is past the return date)
If weather stays warm, i may drop pan and the valve body, change the bridge seal and the 4 vb seals, and go fishing for it up there. Keep you posted.
