$700... what subs/amp should i get???

there are lots of quality brands that you can get for under $700. instead of me telling you what to buy, just go to a local car audio shop (a real shop, not best buy or circuit city) and listen to the subwoofers in your price range. a good shop will have a demo car for you to listen in. you should pick out something that sounds good to you and hits the way you want it to.

powered subs are the answer

In my '98 I had a little less budget but still managed some massive bass/quality sound. I bought an Infinity/JBL powered sub which is a box with a 10 inch sub on top and a 10 inch passive radiator (makes bass hit tight) along with a two-hundred watt amp. Then I put 6*8 pioneers in the front and back doors. I installed it all myself so it ended up running little less than 600. It sounds great for Marley and other stuff with lots of bass. Just a suggestion.
