Curtis,
You have a Ford 8.8 Rear end, now you want to know what gears you have, This can be done 1 of 2 ways.
#1, crawl under the Truck, and read the Tag that is attached to your rear end by one of the rear end cover bolts. I believe it will be something like 373, 410 etc....

#2, (the Easier one to do) get the code on your door sticker under rear axle, and match it to same cone that can be found here = http://www.users.qwest.net/~ntrpriz/Axle.htm, and that will tell you what you have for gears in your Explorer.

This infomation should be true, unless someone has changed the gears before you got the truck(un-likley). On my Explorer, It says I have 4:10 gears, but I know that I have 4:10 Limites Slip since I changed the carrier from an open one to one with limited slip. So my Tag, and Dorr sticker are wrong.

Well I got my limited slip from a Jeep guy who installed a locker in his 8.8, and sold me his 8.8 limited slip for cheap. I MIGHT be able to get you one for cheap money, i'll know more after this weekend.

Right now, you have an open carrier, and only 1 wheel will turn at a time. With limited Slip, both tires will turn then 1 of them slips.........
