Help!
I have a 91 4 door Explorer XLT.
I have installed among other things a Auburn Pro Series LS and 4:56 gears. To beef up the rear end I also instaled a Ford SVO rear diff cover that has the bolt cap tensioners that help the end caps on the diff.
Anyway, about a month ago I started hearing this screach. Rick, you heard it when we ran raw deal and martinez. We all thought it was brakes. I had the alignment done as you must do that every 3 months because Ford TTB hates lifts and large tires and they said the front brakes looked fine. I cleaned them real good and I still heard a squeal. I finally decided to change the pads. This did not fix the squeal. I finally got the truck on 4 jack stands and put the vehicle in gear. I got it to start squealing but I could not figure out were it was coming from. I heard the drive shaft ping a couple times so I imeadiatly removed it and took it to Dicks Drive Shaft and they discovered that the joints were going bad. I had them replaced as I saw how much movement they had in them and they looked bad. This only took an hour and when I returned and intaled the drive shaft the squeal was still there. Man I was mad:fire:
I then got right under the truck while it was in the air, running and in gear (Not to safe :nono: )
and found out it is the pinion bearing. I also found out that my diff fluid has been leaking out through the bolts that support the end caps of the rear end.
Has anyone heard of this?
Does anyone have this rearend, I know Rick has one, does anyone know how to stop this from leaking?
I am looking at a serious bill to fix this.
Any suggestions?
Help?

Heh I think almost all of us have the 8.8 rearend!

As for your problem, it's not uncommon for the pinion seal to go out (dunno about the bearing). But unless you know how to set gear lash. It's best left up to a qualified mechanic to fix.

I used teflon tape on the long bolts that go through the cover. Sorry to hear about the problems!

Seems simple enough. I will try the tephlon tape. It never leaked before and then all of a sudden I was out of fluid and my bearing was screwed.
Rick, you remember the squeak when we ran raw deal and martinez. Man I thought it was breaks.

Oh yeah, I saw you on the 202 Freeway by ASU this week. What were you doing on my side of town.
I dont remember giving you a hall pass:nono:

Hey that's pretty funny Jeremy. I take the Explorer out there once in a blue moon and you see me on the road. You did see me in the Explorer right? I just remembered I was out there with the Dodge this week too.

Tick there are about 2 million white dodge rams with that clacking diesal in Arizona.
But there is only one Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown:D

Spelling error, I meant Rick not Tick.
I have fat fingers:p
