hey everyone. as soon as my brother is off work im going to go buy a beat up 84 ranger with a winch bumper just to have the bumper for my explorer. just wondering if the bumper will bolt right up to my explorer? going to buy the truck either way but i'm bored and want to go get some steel now if i need to make brackets.

$400 is a good deal if it runs. If not, then it will only be a good deal if you can get it running very cheaply, or have another Ranger you need parts for. Otherwise your paying $400 for a bumper.

ya it runs ok. 3rd gear sticks a bit. taks a bit of force to get it in and out of 3rd. but i plan and taking the bumper and selling the truck for a couple of hundred bucks. any idea if the bumper will bolt right up to my explorer? i didnt measure the frame or even look at the mounts when i took it out for a drive. im thinking the ranger frame is a bit more narrow then the explorer but i can figure that out later.

The bumper would fit a bronco II. It's not wide enough to bolt on to a Explorer. I suppose you can make brackets & make it fit. I'm not sure what's involved with that.

i havent measured my explores frame but the front frame on the ranger is 26 inchs outside to outside. i got the winch bumper off and im going to go to my parents to pick my explorer up in a little bit, wont mount up perfect because the ranger bumpers mount to the front and the top of the frame and the explorer is on the side but thats fine because my younger brother is a welder and will make some new brackets for me.

also the ranger runs good. i need to replace the starter because it makes grinding noises when starting the engine and i need a new alternator because the battery wont stay charged. also need to replace the front brakes. the front passenger side calliper seized up while driving it home and i had to open it up remove the pads and wire it up above the wheal and crimp the brake line to make it the rest of the way home. so i figure a few hundred at the junk yard and it'll run good enough to beat up in the bush.

rangers frame is the same width as the explorer :) so the top bolt holes will work and just need to get some L shape brackets made to get the front bolts to bolt onto the outside of the frame. might just use some square tubing cut about 2 inchs long then cut it so its L shaped. anyone have thoughts on what size winch to go with? i can get a new 6000lb for around 300$. would that be enough to pull the x out of a mud pit? or should i go with 8000 or 10 000?

6 k winch is not enough,,

i have a 9 k on mine, and it works good,
