I recently purchased a non-running '87 Ranger that is in exceptional shape for it's age except fot the engine. The truck has 75,000 original miles. I did manage to get the truck running but it ran EXTREMELY rich. I took the engine apart as I am replacing the heads with later style heads due to all the negative things I have read about the early heads. It turned out that 2 intake valve pushrods on the pasenger bank had come out of position so the intake valves were not opening. One of the lifters came apart, one was still intact. The two lifters appear to be stuck in their bores. Any thoughts as to what could have caused this to occur? There was oil everywhere so I don't think it was lack of oil, unless at one time someone had run it low on oil??? I have not gotten the lifters out yet. I am hoping the block is salvageable. Thanks for your help.
