yeah that's bad... I mean damn even my V8 gets a solid 17.5

Sorry no tips on my end, But I had the same problem when I had my 93 X. It got like 13 or so MPG for the last 1 that I had it..

And the thing is I gave up 4x4 for lent...

so thats not a problem....

Do the RPM's seem to run high on it?

u might need a new 02 sonsor..or a couple

thats really the only thing i can think of..thats why my zuki has horrid gas milage

How about a tune up, synthetic oils and air up the tires.

The worse mileage I ever got was about 11.5-12 MPG and that was when the tranny went and I drove 55 MPH in the second for about 50 miles.

11 MPG.. damn thats bad.. Definately need to do a tune up.. New plugs & wires.. replace air filter and clean the MAF & IAC sensors.. the usual..

OK
1. clean your MAS your new K&N might have been a bit too oily and the vapors might have coated your sensor elements.

2.Scan your codes, there might be something stored that could indicate o2 or EGR/DPFE

3.. While cleaning your MAS, disconnect your battery.

4. check your tire pressures, go by what is posted on the sidewalls not the door sticker, like unclemeat says.

5. complete tune up, plugs, wires, DPFE, maybe even clean the backside of your throttle body.

6. consider synthetic fluids like unclemeat says.

Look for aldive's "my quest for 30" thread.

That should help. I have been getting about 12.5 city until last week, It has jumped up to about 14.5 city.

Check your fuel pressure regulator. I have seen faulty ones cause huge gas consumption problems.

The brush guard and bug guard will probaly hurt your gas mileage some, but i don't think too much.

Brush gaurd doesn't do that much. Do the basic maintanance listed above and you SHOULD see an increase in it. I only get 15mpg. So don't look for a huge increase:p

im having the same problem and my check engine light came on yesterday, do you think its my O2 sensor ?

i would post my mpg but i don't want to jinx it. ;)

NO! never put synthetic oil in a high milage vehical... it will cause leaks since the organic oil can gum up leaks...

I only get 12.5 MPG in my 92, and that is driving 1/2 city, 1/2 highway.

One more thing, remove anything heavy and unnecessay from the back of the vehicle, go easy on the gas pedal.

No, many people have done it before with sucess. I did it with 75k, friend did it with 90k. No problems whatsoever.

Ditto, did mine at 135,000km. No Issues, don't think I got better mileage because of it however.
