91 4.0 swap to 97?

ok i got a 91 ex with just over 100k on the motor but the body is pretty rough. im looking for an ex with a bad motor and found a 97 just wanted to know will my engine bolt into it? besides all the wiring and computers

It may not pass an emisions inspection. DOT requires that swapping a used engine must be the same year or newer. It also may not pass because the computer will give a different VIN number that is in the computer. Some states read the computer codes as an emisions inspection.

If the 97 was SOHC I believe its going to be a PITA to put the OHV in but maybe not.

Also if NY doesnt do any serious emmissions inspections and the 97 was OHV then swapping in the motor from the 91 should be pretty straightfoward, you will probably have to swap out the intakes and exhaust manifolds since the 91 doesnt have egr and only has one 02 sensor whereas the 97 I believe has 3 O2s(well my moms 96 does) and an egr setup.
So basically you would just be swapping the block and heads and using the 97s wiring harness and sensors.

so what your saying is if its a ohv i wont need to swapt computer and wiring harness? cool and i got a freind who passses my emissions
