Is this an easy swap? I have a line on a great 97 4.0 and my 91 4.0 is getting pretty tired after 150K on her. Is there anything preventing this swap? It has the exhaust manifolds, fuel injection, and pretty much everything out of a wrecked 97.
please someone shed more light on this for me.
Thanks you Martin

Martin,

While I think the physical engine will fit-size,bolt holes etc. The electronics(computer, sensors) I dont think are the same. I know that the ignition module was eliminated in 96, and the later model has different CMP sensor, and the EGR systems are different.
Answer is I really dont know, but I would think that the basic engine-block heads hard parts could be used with the earlier model computer and sensors. Unless you change out the whole computer and sensors to the later model, which probably is not worth the time/ trouble.

Dont know if that helped or not but...

Good luck

I was thinking of the '9 swap myself. I was told by a local yahoo(salvage yard) that it would be a pain in the ___, due to all the new sensors and wiring. He also said that the old computer wouldn't run the newer engines. I don't know if there's any validity in what he said.I don't have the $$ for it right now, but I'd like to know if it can be done without a lot of trouble. Keep posted if you find out anything,. I'd appreciate it!]
Thanks
Scott
