91 Eddie Bauer won't start - just replaced fuel filter. I can hear the fuel pump and get gas from the Shrader valve but it doesn't spray out just dribbles. Bad fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator?

Maybe. 1st thing I'd recommend is to put a fuel pressure gauge on it and actually measure the pressure. Look for the fuel pressure mini-diary thread in the Under the Hood forum for a look at how to do a fuel pressure test. Chilton's also has a nice fuel system diagnostic chart (I think it is taken from the Ford manuels) that could be useful in organizing your diagnosis. From there we will see if the system is generating any pressure at all, and if it seems to be because the regulator is opening too early or because the pump is somehow unable to generate sufficient pressure.

did you replace the fuel filter because there was already an issue? if the problem occurred after the filter then you probably have you cause. was there any problem replacing the fuel filter (quick disconnects)?

Replaced filter for routine maintenance - but put it in backwards! Ex stalled a couple of times and then died. Got it home and noticed filter was on backwards, took it off and put it back on with flow shoing right way and can't get it to start since.

im not too sure of what the filters are made of but usually a paper mesh keeps the dirt contained to the outer portion of the filter, perhaps some paper got sucked or stuck improperly. what happens if you put starting fluid in the intake? how bout just buying a new filter perhaps that filter became damaged when it was installed improperly.

Try fuel injector cleaner after you do get it started.

Try another filter. Maybe by putting the first one in wrong you messed it up? Just a thought

Tried different filter - still wouldn't start. Borrowed pressure gauge and had good pressure. Had it towed to a shop and they replaced the ignition module and crankshaft position sensor. Runs fine now. Thanks for the help everyone!
