I have a 91 explorer that has a thrown rod in the engine. I am looking for a short block replacement and found one. Here is the information stated about the short block:

1995-1996 FORD EXPLORER & RANGER 4.0 244 SHORT BLOCK

Rebuilt 4.0 LITER 244ci short block. It was remanufactured by a Ford Authorized engine assembly plant. It will fit 1995-1996 Ford Explorer, Ranger, Aerostar, and 1995-1996 Mazda Navajo(VIN code may not match on this application). It has a six bolt crank and is for VIN code "X".

Highlights:
# Rebuilt
# Block casting: 95TM-AB
# Crank casting: 96TM-AA
# Gaskets included
# New Melling oil pump
# Vin code: "X"

Will this work with my heads and other parts off of my existing motor?

Thanks in advance,
Tom

Below is a link explaining the differences between the castings. It does not appear to be compatable but I'm not sure. I would ask doug about that. His e-mail is at the bottom if ti still works. I replaced mine a year and a half ago with a motor from a 2000 X. Motor cost 750. I just moved over all the OBD-I sensors and capped off the cam possition sensor hole. You will need the gear drive from the old block so the cam can still drive the oil pump though. You will also need the oil pan off the 91 as well because the low oil sensor was not in the newer oil pans. also, the newer oil pans used an o-ring typ gasket and the old ones used the regular flat one or vise versa, can't quite remember. I did this 15000 miles ago and the only problems I have are a few oil leaks which are my fault. I did a lot of asking around before I started mixing parts. I would do the same just to be safe.

Josh, Thanks for the reply. I emailed Doug off of that page. Lets hope the email still works!
