I am a new member and can use any help from anyone.
So here goes, 1992 Explorer XLT 4x4, 5 speed manual transmission, V-6 4.0.
Bought this Explorer new, put 330,000 miles on it. Then passenger side head cracked, at least that what I think it is.
Question: does anyone know of any on line engine rebuilders where I can order a long block that are honest and do good work? Or, can anyone recommend a different engine that would be better and that would bolt up to the Mazda 5 speed? Should be a direct bolt in.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give. Mark

If you want to do the work yourself (assembly, not machine work) you could probably get it done for around 1200.

i've also got a running 4.0 here i pulled out of an X recently (in favor of an engine swap). it seemed to run fine but had a little lifer tick... $250 and its yours.. but you gotta come get it (southern California)

The 4.0 engines are such durable engines as you can attest to with 3,330 miles on the odometer .If you can find a good used engine with less than 120,000 miles,it would probabley out last the body of your ex. and save you a bunch of $$.You can put in a later model, by switching your accesories over . there are others on this site that can tell you all about the swap. or guide you to the right thread.
