91 explorer 4x4 TTB 5.5JD
Hello folks,

I have a 91 explorer that I wanted to give it more get up and go. All my buddies have side by sides and have been rippin on my oem v6 4L cologne Engine.

My thoughts were a 4th gen LS3 with the quick draw adapter (Bell Housing – Jeep AX15 / NV3550 5 Speed to GM LS V8) to use a nv3500 along with a NP231 T-Case. Also planned on doing a slip yoke eliminator and running the rear 8.8 axle.

I do have upgraded yukon axle shafts in the rear but have the stock dana 35 ttb along with a James Duff 5.5 lift kit.

Does anyone with Ls swap experience mind sharing some experience on the powertrain mentioned? eBay has a couple ls3 engines currently that i was looking at. Does anyone have experience with the quick draw adapters? I like how it mentioned it uses an external slave from a 98 jeep. Vs the current setup stock slave if it fails requires separating the m5odr1 from the 4L ohv.

If that powertrain sounds good I will document my install for any other Ls enthusiast to follow.

I’d try and source the motor local, in case you get a bad one. Returning a bunk motor is a huge hassle.

NV3500 won't last too long behind a healthy V8. A TR4050 would allow you to use the same transfer case and can withstand 600+ lb/ft torque.

The TR4050 idea sounds like the best option for the manual setup im going for, thanks guys. For overall dimensions have people had to mess with the transmission cross member a whole bunch to get the drive line angles correct?

I’d think the crossmember is going to be the least of your struggles.

I'm running a th400 in mine, stock 93 cross member.
I'm doubler carden joint front and rear so the drivetrain is shifted slightly to help with clearances.
