91 explorer shifting problem

Any one know what this dtc mean on my 91 explorer. I was able to pull these code from a scanner.

57- Octane adjust pin in/nps circuit fault

When i put the truck in drive or reverse it does not want to move forward until i rev it to about 4-5k. When it does start to move it shift really late about 4-5k. Check a/t fluid level is good and look clean, does not smell any burning smell. Anyone have any idea? thanks.

neither my code list don't nor BrooklynBay's code list mention the octane adjust pin for a 57. The lists I've seen simply refer to the park/neutral position switch circuit. It either suggests that you didn't have the transmission in P or N for the test, or there's some fault in the PNP switch circuit. Should be a fairly straightforward circuit and should be easy to track down, if you want.

The DTC and you transmission engagement issues are almost certainly not related. There's nothing electrical about transmission engagement on your A4LD. The engagement issue will be a hydraulic or mechanical issue, which I'm not very good at diagnosing.

The Octane Adjust Bar DTC just means that the shorting bar isn't in place on the jumper. It's nothing to worry about and is not related to the transmission problem.
