91 sport engine swap..???????

hi,,i want to do an engine swap in my 91 explorer sport.

id like some more performance out of the engine...a project engine that i can rebuilt a little then swap in.

i just want some sugestions as to which engine would be easiest to swap in and still give me a little more power.

id like a v8 and people tell me the 5.0 is the best swap option for me...if so.. which years should i look for or does it not matter??

I have a friend with a 5.0 in a ranger. Tell me whats the big deal with the swap. I've pulled the 5.0 out of the ranger and put it in. Plus on top of that its a 5-speed.
