91 Transmission Problem - No Forward

Have a 91 explorer and all forward gears do not work. Reverse is fine. This happened all the sudden. Checked linkage and it is fine. I was wondering if it is worth changing filter & fluid or if the trans is just shot and I should skip the resuscitation efforts and get a new trans...? I really would like to get this one going for another couple of K miles. any advice would be appriciated...

Assume you tried it in D to rule out the one way clutch and also manual 1 & 2. Since it works in reverse, I would assume a problem with the forward clutch. This is engaged and stays engaged in all forward gears. I'd say you are out of options except for pulling it.
