I am wondering what is an average cost number for a complete rebuilt engine for the above Explorer.

Its got a 5" Trailmaster lift but the engine is almost completely Hosed.

A V8 would be nice however does this mean My tranny has to go as well!?!

And for all this work what kind of numbers should I expect to see?

5K- 10K- 15k??

Its going to be alot of money to do a V8 swap. Yes you need a new tranny to go with it. Try doing a search for V8 swap and engine rebuild and you will come up with tons of info on both these subjects.

Did anyone else notice that Viper iii is 100 years old.

Old Age and still Kickin

Yep.. gonna Be a little bit older next year as well!

Engine Search

Is there a search button for the forums or did you mean a search in general!?!

Any good direction I guess is what I need!

Ok.. so I'm stupid.. I found the button.. search...

Viper_iii, R U still here?

A good performance rebuild for the 4.0 V-6 will cost you as much as a 5.0 V-8 conversion. (My opinion)...

If you get a long block V-6 from a rebuilding house, the setup will still run you in the area of $1500 to $2000 installed, so where is the logic.

Try to assembly all of the parts for a V-8 swap using a low milage 5.0 from a Mountaineer or F-150 and worry about rebuilding the V-8 at a later date, IF you need more power.

I believe that too many people over look the potiential of the Mountianeer Package with stock trans/transfer case. Go to a Salvage Yard and see what a Motor/Trans/TransferCase/Harness will run you, get all of the accessories, order an adapter kit and you should be golden.

Good Luck,

:us: :chug: :can:

Sweet .. I will do so..

I am just monitoring the other thread that I started on the same topic...

I just figured that a rebuild of my existing v6 would be cheaper than a used decent running V8 swap...
But I now am in the process of pricing out all the options..

Stay tuned for my pricing...
