from what you stated that happened to me 2 months ago and had to get the whole tranny re-built...$1900....you have tore the front seal away and subsequently everything inside the tranny is now burnt and scrap....believe me....sorry dude.....how many miles on the motor, what shape is the body in? I just purchased an '02 for 125 a week with 4 years warranty 180,000 k/m Ford premium extended warranty...I'm glad I still kept the 94 of mine 'cause now I have two vehicles...good luck dude!!!!!

milage approx 125k body pretty good little rust engine runs good no smoke interior good not a bad looking truck except for the UGLY COLOR aqua green bright as hell can be spot about 4 miles away cuz of the weird ford color , the originia tranny blew from a previos owner wnen we got it it had a junk yard tranny and the ratio was off cuz the speed was 10 miles slower than we where accually going , most of the time the truck would start off in 2nd gear and would take a looooong time to shift when cold

I just talked to a shop owner.

I have a 93 Limited with the A4ld tran. Owned since new. I had heard that this transmission has been known to dump after a 100,000 or so. Although mine seems to be working just fine I asked about it. He said yes he has replaced the A4lds over the years. He suggested that for same money or sometimes a little cheaper he can get a Ford factory reconditioned tranny with all the mods and updates with warrenty that is much better than a local rebuilt. Just a thought.

that's exactly what mine started doing...exactly the way you describe!!!!! towed my light trailer 3 times and poof...blew the front seal and burnt everything inside of it.....I put 140,000 k/m's on it myself and don't know how old the tranny was before that...I like v1rotv2's suggestion though...I would do that....goodluck!!!!!

The front seal blow out problem is a common occurrence, and doesn't mean the entire transmission is automatically bad. Check your coolant level, fan clutch, thermostat, and radiator cap. Don't tow in overdrive up hill, and get a heavy duty transmission cooler. The stacked plate design is more efficient than the fin & tube design. In some cases the bell housing could be bad, or it could just be the bushing, and front seal. The bleed back weep hole in the bell housing could be drilled out to 5/16" to help this problem a little bit.
