The transmission blew out almost all of its fluid, and I lost drive. I have refilled it but can only get reverse. It has 300,000k and don't think the fluid had been changed for the last 4 years. Is the problem likely to be terminal for the transmission ? I don't want to throw K's of bucks at it, rather go and get another vehicle (explorer), but wondered if there is something simple and basic that may have caused the problem.

Thanks

Mine just started doing that to. I haven't gotten much for answers so I'm looking into swapping in a 5speed out of a ranger. I looked into rebuilt ones right from Napa or lordco and you're looking at about 1800 and about 500 for the core. Good luck

I don't know if yours is the same but mine is puking out of the vent tube.

If the PVC valve fails, would the transmission still select reverse and not fwd gears ? Just before the trans' died, it was refusing to idle.

With temps of -25C and a garage full of house -reno material, I hadn't been too quick at looking into the problem.

Hi........ I know some of you guys know a heck of a lot about these transmissions,,,,,, I filled up the trans with fluid and I got drive..... I have used it for a few days, about 50Km... then tonight just driving along steady and all forward drive vanished. I have reverse, no problem but nothing fwd.

Could it be vacuum failure ? I am going out this weekend to buy a newer model, probably 2001, but I would really like this one to be driveable.

Thanks everyone, I do appreciate your help

Thanks Brooklyn. I will get to it this weekend, but me thinks a new vehicle is on the cards.
