Transmission shifts fine, but no engine braking going down hill in low gears. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome to this forum! I see that you are new here. Could you please describe the symptoms in more detail? You said that it shifts fine. Does it only happen at a certain temperature, or just on an incline? Does it feel like your transmission is slipping in, and out of neutral on a hill? How many miles do you have on your transmission? Does this problem only happen in 2WD, or in a different setting?

lack of engine braking can be the intermediate band (often shows up as 2nd gear problems) or a one way clutch (sprag). In short, it is NOT good news. VB is possible, but a longshot.

Follow up to No Engine Braking

The lack of engine braking, as far as I can tell, is the only symptom. Otherwise, the vehicle seems perfectly normal. It has about 260,000 Km on it, original transmission.

Ambient temperature, about 10 deg C. Engine at running temp.
Most apparant when going down steeper hills, 2WD... but also noticeable on flat roads.

Thanks again,

Colin

Glacier, could it be the TCC solenoid not applying the converter at a certain speed/RPM range? Maybe it might be his TPS not sending the proper signal to the computer to apply the TCC. What do you think?
