92 Explorer rear Drum axle to disc conversion

I actually did the swap yesterday. It was successful. The automatic donor had the same axle code as mine 41. I tested it and it ran the same. I dont know how to post pictures on this site but i have the before and after. I didnt change the mc and i connected the excisting emergency cable with the new cable

Probably should've. .people have had issues and for less than $30 for a MC,its worth it..hell even worth it just for the fresh fluid and piece of mind..brakes are one thing you shouldnt take for granted

Kumar - How did bleeding the go? How are your brakes post swap?

I had a ***** of a time bleeding past the RABS. I still have some sponge, but my brakes are definitely much better and I feel much more secure towing stuff.

Take it out and lock them up to activate the rabs,or smack on the rabs with a piece of wood wile someone works the pedal..you should switch all the fluid out also to a synthetic fluid, your tend to get moisture mix with old flood causing rabs and calipers to stick..also ill ask if you switched masters?? Both my trucks within 2" of pushing pedal they are firm, same with both my buddies trucks we did the swap in..we did swap MC in both and used speed bleeders on all four corners with all new fluid

Apologies to the OP, I'm not trying to hijack the post...

I originally had the stock MC but switched to the '95 straight-no option MC. I flushed all new DOT 3 fluid through and still have sponge brake pedal. With my engine off I have a really firm pedal, but engine running with vacuum boost and it there opposite. I have speed bleeders in the rear only.

I'll try again with your suggestion to rap the RABS while working the pedal. I also have SS braided lines front and rear from the hard line connection. When forum searching, I noticed and learned its a some-***** to bleed these guys, but I had no idea how bad my truck would be!

JD4242 this is KUMAR... Sorry for the late reply. I did the swap and blead in a matter of hours less than 5 hrs. My breaks were spongy before the swap. But i still blead the fluid. I started at the rear and finished at the front. Breaks better than old differential. I have my break light on and anti break light on as well. I cant find a solution for those lights. Another thing is that i used almost all of the new emergency brake cable and a small amount of the old cable that i couldnt take off. To join both cables you will struggle so i suggest get help. I asked my father in law and his brother. Just to bolt things back on. Oh the emergency break cable that comes on the 91 goes threw a bracket that is attached on a bolt thats tacked...almost welded but not because its from factory. I hammered it off and had to unbolt the gas tank just a little bit to get the rest of the bolt out because fingers dont fit between frame and gas tank. Sorry my info is scattered but im posting this threw my phone and its more of a ***** posting this than actually doing the work. If anything ill post some pictures on facebook look me up my name is Habacuc Cisneros

If the lights on means you have a bad rabs units or sensor in rearend..i would say the rabs is bad and sticking..new fluid, smacking on unit and locking up the breaks on a dirt road can sometimes unstick it..sometimes. .if not replace the rabs

The rough road driving made a difference on my issue, but rapping the RABS definitely firmed up the pedal! Great idea for bleeding these guys.

Excellent they are known for sticking, especially if the rabs is never activated..may try and bleed the rears again now
