1992 Explorer XLT manual
Hi this is my first post on the forums. I purchased my 1992 explorer XLT v6 pushrod about a month ago. It has a manual transmission and auto lock hubs. The vehicle only has 105k on it but good god the problems i am having. Heres my list of things i have replaced. AC compresor, starter, all 4 ball joints, both radius arm bushings, passenger front seat, drivers side door panel (still no handle), front disk and pads, front and rear wiper motors, master cylinder, high pressure line on the power steering, steering gearbox, and my ash tray :p:. Now here is my list of problems left.... Rear drums need replacement, Valve cover gaskets are leaking, and lots of tranny work, gas gauge doesnt work, and my speedometer is about 5 miles off and bouncy at low speeds. The tranny is my big concern at the moment. I took it to a local transmission specialist and i was completely dry in fluid on my clutch and my tranny oil. They said i needed to do a clutch job a hydraslave, and the freeze plugs in the top cover. Here are the problems i am having so i can make sure of what i am doing before i go digging into it and f-in up. When completely stopped i hear what sounds like for lack of a better work spinning sound from in side the tranny i push the clutch in and it slowly fades away. Let the clutch out and it gets loud again. the sound does not go away while moving even with the clutch in. It gets louder as i am going down the road as well. Is there a Input shaft bearing? I have purchased a clutch kit and flywheel and a slave is on order i am picking it up tomorow. Is there anything else that i should do while i am in there. Will this fix the sound. Will it tighten up my shift stick which is very loose for 1st through 4th but 5th and reverse are normaly tight. Thank you for reading sorry for it being so long.

pilot bushing, throw out bearing, plugs for the top of the trans, and I think there is a bushing for the shifter.

awesome thats everything that i have thank you very much =D

I think there is some posts on here about pulling the tranny and doing the pilot and slave along with bleeding the slave. From what I've read definetly bench bleed the master cylinder.

well i did it i replaced my clutch my flywheel my slave my pilot and guess what for me. ****ty. I still have the sound that my old throwout bearing was making the sound is still coming out of the transmission....... It sound like a whirring sound almost like the new slave/throwout bearing is bad.

You might try draining and replacing the fluid again. Might have been some debris in it? Does the sound occur at all speeds?

You might consider just replacing the tranny with a junk yard one. Find a nice later model M50D. Another guy put a HD one in his with some modification. Sounded pretty slick.

well i come to find out that its just that all the sound baffling is gone from the top cover up is gone my shifter boot is broken. at least thats what the tranny shop said. so i pulled everything from the top cover up out of the junk yard. amazing thing happened today too. there is a 91 explorer that just came into the yard and will be available for deconstruction on saturday at 9. it has seats that match mine and my drivers side door panel :D
