Had the same problem with my last explorer. The truck worked fine one day then over the course of a week the drive gears just stopped working. Turns out the tranny was done. Not sure what the mechanical problem was but I needed a new transmission. Hopefully this isn't the case for you.

yea I hope not it has been sitting for 1.5 years since it stopped moving hooked a battery up to it today an it fired right up and I only paid 450$ for it but I am really hoping it isn't the tranny

I lost all forward engagement in the time It took to go inside a store and get groceries and Come back outside and all I had was reverse .

Previous owner of mine said it had the same problem, needed the transmission rebuilt. Someone else I know had the same issue, also needed a rebuilding.

There's weak parts in the A4LD. Once replaced with better quality equivalents, the trans will last longer. These trannys were a modification of a lightweight model. I believe the 4.0L in the Explorer is the highest power engine Ford put ahead of the A4LD and the funny thing is, the Explorer has the most problems with it. I wonder why that is :)

I appreciate all the quick responses thanks guys
