Im new to this site and a new owner of a 92 explorer xlt 4x4,( 142.000)great shape. what should I look out for, Ive just started doing air, oil and simple stuff. But winter has come. What should I check for spring upgrades, any quirks to look for?
Thanks for your help.....

Welcome to the site and congrats on your purchase. The first gen X ‘s are some tough trucks, but there are as with every thing there can be some issues to look out for. Some things would be the tranny (AL4D) for the automatics, front radius bushings tend to wear out and cause a clunking whenever going over bumps, and I have heard that the auto hubs for the 4x4 are weaker then with manual locking hubs. Nothing is guaranteed some cars just seem to have more problems then others and some seem to have just about none besides regular maintenance. But this site is a great way to gain information and help with just about every problem that may occur.

Quirks?
Ummmm.... yeah, from what I hear they've started a forum based on explorer quirks.

Seriously though, welcome to the site. You'll find tons of useful info on keeping your X in top shape.

Thanks, Its funny you say that about the hubs. Im hearing clunking, It sounds like its coming from the front end.
