I'm at my wits end with this thing.
My 92 4wd was having shifting probs. So I tried all the things posted here. New mod valve, new solenoids, speed gov. and still no luck.
So I found a good used trans. It’s a two-year-old jasper rebuild. Yanked the old in with the new. I replaced the fly wheel and fly wheel spacer while I was at it.
The thing ran fine for about a week. Now, during the first drive of the day. After it has sat all night. It stays in first way way to long, (about a 1/4-mile or so.
Then it shifts. Then it’s absolutely fine all day. The new modulator is the adjustable kind and I tried adjusting both way and that didn't affect it.
Is it possible this is still a modulator problem and I perhaps got a bad one out of the box? I’ve had this happen to me before with other things.
Any advice.
I hope it's something simple cuz I really don't want to do all the parts swapping again.
Thanks

Once again I am thinking governor.

I was afraid you'd say that. I do not want drop that transfer again. I'm gonna have a hard time mustering the ambition. I just discovered it also needs a water pump.
If anyone wants to rid me of this Ford, I'll consider offers.
Thanks
