I recently bought a 92 sport and yesterday the battery died. something's staying on and I started tearing into it. anyway it had a bunch of useless and horribly done wiring for a set of offroad lights and a CB it used to have. I tore out all the wiring and the switch for the lights/cb, but there was another switch that was run into the under dash harness. a switch with two red wires was run to a pink wire and a red wire with a light blue stripe under the dash and I want to know what for? I looked up what those wires are for on a ranger truck, and they say the pink one is for the trans neutral saftey switch and the red with light blue stripe goes From neutral safety switch to the starting system. is it the same on an explorer? is that what the wires in question actually go to making what I found out accurate? why would someone want to hook up a switch to it for? is it some sort of ghetto rigged alarm system? they soldered the wires all together so will I have to cut out that section and patch it or can I just cut the two red wires and tape it off? I want to do a good long lasting job cause this needs to be reliable. any help will be appreciated.

Off the top of my head, those are the wires to the neutral safety switch.

If its a manual trans, that makes it so you don't need to press the clutch to start the truck..

It can also be a poor mans alarms.. you flip the switch and the truck won't start (or turn over).

so I'm guessing that if I cut the wires run to the switch, take them off the factory harness and I tape over the exposed portion it will be done with? meaning no longer able to do that? or will I have to hook it back up, hit it to "turn it off" and hook the battery back up? sorry if I'm coming off as a brother billo, but I'm kind of intimidated by automotive wiring outside of hooking up an audio system.

There's two red wires with a light blue stripe. They both start at the same point in the ignition and goto different points. What this guy had done is had a under the dash switch or something so someone couldn't steal it. You can pick any two of those wires and connect them as they originate at the same spot.
