93 ex making knock noise from engine

i just rebuilt the top end had everything brand new..it was done correctly cuz it ran for like a whole month no problemns now the water pump gasket is leaking and the car ran hot for a few minutes. then it started making this clunk noise every time i pressed the pedal then the car shut off on me. when i wen tto go start the car back up it wont make the nosie any more i even rev the engine to see if i can get the noise back

any ideas of what was going on

wont hear anything but a good sounding engine the noise came and went

Thats wild. If it happens to come back, I'd get some audio of it though.
