93 Explorer, idle rough, check engine light , fuel smell present.

I have a 93 Explorer, 4.0, Automatic Transmission. On three occasions over the past few weeks the vehicle when starting will idle rough, check engine light is on a there if a fuel smell present. After cutting the engine off and restarting and various lengths of time the vehicle runs perfectly without hesitation, check in engine light is off and there is no fuel smell present. Any suggestions….?
