93 have an EGR?

I bought an egr valve from pepboys, i went to install it today and i can't find it anywhere. I searched threads on here for a while, seems like 1994 started the egr valve thing. Bottom line is DO I or DON'T I have one?

Trust me you DO have an EGR valve. It was around a loooong time before 1994. Buy a manual for the Explorer and you will have a handy source of information available. I have neither my manuals or my Explorer handy, so cannot point you right to it on the 4.o, but a manual is a good thing to have in any event. Somone else can probably tell you, but once they do you will know only one thing, whereas buying a manual can answer MANY future questions. Good luck.

i have looked everywhere, i even went out and bought a Haynes manual today. I looked up egr and the book shows it on the driver side on the intake manifold towards the front. MIne is not there? i need a visual or a detailed description.

I have a 93 and the EGR is on the drivers side valve cover and plugs into the intake plemum.:redexp:

You may not have one

Contrary to what is posted above you may not have an EGR valve or system. My 91 does not have an EGR system .
I dont know the break downs, but I think the Cali smogged vehicles always had them, and that the Fed vehicles had them starting in 93 or 94 maybe earlier, I really dont know. Point is you may not have one if you cant find it on the drivers valve cover.

Bigger question to me is WHY did you buy something that you dont know if you have or if it is bad- since you obviously havent tested it????

EGR was fitted midway through the 93 model year. So you may or may not have it on your 93.

Gosh, you know I have lived in CA for 30 years now, and I guess I just assumed that all cars met the Ca smmog standards (I know better, just never thought of it). I mean I have never seen a car without an EGR valve in a long time! Certainly not in the 90's! I stand corrected. a 49 state/Canada Explorer may not have had an EGR huh ? Wild! Thnks.
