Guys,
I am doing the rear brakes on my wife's 93 Ranger. The e-brake wasn't working so I pulled the drums and decided to change out the shoes and hardware. Everything was seized up pretty well in there. The small steel cable that runs from the top post to the bottom of the shoe was broken on the passenger side. The e-brake has a lot of slack in it and I am wondering if there is any way to adjust it or if it is just stretched out from her trying to use it with everything rusted up. I will put all the new parts on tomorrow morning. Thanks in advance for all help.

I`m pretty sure your cable should self adjust, I know mine does (on my EX). You may just have to push on the brake and let it off a few times for it to tighten up?

ld50,
Thanks for the response. I had it apart today and see teh problem. The e-brake cables are seized "on". The shoes are worn enough that it doesn't afttect them. I couldn't do the new shoes because of this. The e-brake cables are rubbing in the back in about 4 or 5 different places and they could be rusted tight in any of these bare spots (inside the metal jacket). Anbyone here replaced the 2 rear sections of cable (that go to each wheel)? Where is the best place to buy these and are there any tricks to installing them?

Thanks,
Todd

I would suggest buying them from ford. Yeah, I know, will cost alot of $$$$, but my experience has been that parts at autozone/checker/pep boys can be made in japan/china trash. Go with the official ford equipment on this one. No, I do not work at ford, just think that in certain situations (like brake control equipment) some things should be purchased that are OEM. You might see if raybestos or bendix has cables, I'm really not sure. Saftey matters in this case. Also, since everything is rusted pretty bad, consider totally revamping the system.
