lift the wheels off the ground and check to make sure the brakes aren't dragging. The ABS unit in my '91 failed so I by-passed it using a brass fitting from Autozone. Total repair cost was $2.50.

Do a search on your problems. It could be anything from tranny to plugs & wires. You need to get a better idea of your problem. Start elminating things.

Would a bad crank sensor have anything to do with it? and also i think i need whats called a knock sensor because if i put regular gas in it i get loud ping but with premium gas its fine.

A bad crank sensor could cause low power, but it is also often associated with a no-start situation or other misfires. In many/most cases, it would also be associated with a trouble code (CM 211, 212, 214 see BrooklynBay's list of EEC-IV codes in the EEC-IV forum).
I suppose it depends on exactly what the problem turns out to be, but if it's a transmission problem, there isn't very much computer control over the A4LD, so I wouldn't expect a CKP to contribute much to a transmission issue.
Are you certain you have a knock sensor? I didn't think any of the 1st gen 4.0's used a knock sensor. Do you get a KOER 225 if you neglect the "goose" test? Do you get a KOER 225 if you perform a good "goose" test? Regarding the pinging, that's a fairly common issue with the first gen 4.0's. Do a search and you should find a lot of information.
