Hey everybody I was wondering if someone could help me out here. my sister's 93 explorer xlt just starts then stalls out. I have already cleaned the maf sensor and cleaned the IAC. you can also hear the fuel pump turn on when you turn the key on and off. what else could it be? I haven't had a chance to check the plugs or wires. when she told me about this I thought iac for sure and it's a cheap fix just had to clean it but after cleaning still doesn't work. any thoughts is appreciated. thanks!

How soon does it stall out? Does it run 2 seconds then abruptly stop like the key was turned off or does it try to run for a minute and slowly run down?

It would be unusual for plugs and wires to cause a sudden stall out. They don't all go bad at once. But pull em out and read em anyway.

On the splash page of 91-94's is a "How to" thread on pulling codes. It would help to do that and post them here.

If you take the IAC motor off the spool valve can you manipulate the spool valve to keep it running?

A weak Fuel Pressure Reg, how much pressure is it holding?

A bad Fuel pump relay

Use your DVOM to measure/test the IAC & the MAF. Just cause you cleaned them doesn't mean they are good.

You might have a short somewhere.

hey thanks for the reply.
when you start it up it just stalls out within 5 seconds.
if you press the gas pedal it will stay running.
when you keep it running, there is no check engine light so there are no codes to be pulled.
I don't know about the fuel pressure I didn't check it.
I pulled the electrical connector to the maf and now it stays running then a check engine light pops on but stays running without having to press the gas pedal. so I am assuming the maf sensor is bad. sound right?

FUELLLLLL FILLLLLTERRRRRRR!!!!!! lol
I'd consider changing it out just to be sure.

Just because there isn't a check engine light on NOW, doesn't mean there aren't any codes that need to be pulled/cleared. They could still help you figure out what is causing it.

But it sounds like you have spark if it's running. so I'd:
1. Clean MAF Sensor
2. Consider changing out fuel filter (you'd have a new one adn coudl be the problem)
