Problem: Warped/bent/deformed backing plate on 94 explorer axle.

Preferred solution: Replacement backing plates shipped to my house.

The issue i am having is trying to figure out what fits. Every search i make winds up with 9" stuff. I don't want to switch to disc as i would have to buy a kit because swapping the axle is out of the question (already been re-geared).

I might just need some clarification. So far this is the unconfirmed information i have gathered. Maybe if some one could solidly confirm it.....

'94 explorer 8.8" is a large bearing "torino" style
The backing plate offset is 2.5"?

I saw Currie Enterprises carries 11" loaded backing plates for $219 for a "torino" style 8.8.....however the guy i spoke to said for sure those wouldn't fit a 94 explorer.....

I NEED BRAKES!!!!

Please help...... Ive searched and seen all of the possible responses that aren't real answers.

Im not looking for the following answers:

Go to a junk yard.(no junk yards near me)

Buy a 95 explorer axle with discs and swap. (my current axle has already been regeared)

Use the search button (i have, for days now, it takes you all the way to Toyota supra forums and gives you useless amounts of information about hot rods and 9" rear ends)

I would just like to find somewhere online i can purchase backing plates for a 8.8" rear end off a 94 ford explorer that has already been re-geared and i can still run my 15" wheels.

Thank you in advance for helping me solve my headache....

www.car-part.com Might have to look for an axle assy and then do some calling around to see if someone has one they will seperate or a bad one they will pull the plates off of.

I had a similar problem in my rear 8.8 with drum brakes. The Upper pin in which the brake shoes go was warped (no longer perpendicular to the backing plate). As such the shoes were not riding true and straight causing them to be partially engaged which only got worse over time.

I had also re geared the year before and didn't want to swap anything. I went to a local bone yard and got a used plate in perfect condition. It took about and hour to remove the plate from the bone yard vehicle.

BTW.. If you indicate the general area in which you live maybe you'll get a local response. Many members live near and junk yards and some maybe willing to pickup a backing plate and bring/ship it to you..

I might have some extras, what side do you need. I have some aerostar, explorer, and some f150 plates. I will see if they are all the same. I kind of think they are but I have never checked them to see.

I'd be willing to pick a set up off you if they will work. I need the drivers side though.

Same situation

My 92 explorer is in the shop right now with a bent right rear backing plate, and the dealer says discontinued item. New the part would have been 80 dollars, but that is out of the question now. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. I live in Waverly, TN and would be willing to pay for overnight shipping if possible. my truck is a 92 X with pads on the front and drums on the rear. I need the right rear drum backing plate. Thanks for everyone's time
