I just got my 94 explorer and love it to death, but... I cant figure out how to hook up extra speakers in the back. I took out the little cubby in the rear were the net is attached to to try to get to the speaker back there but cant find a speaker, i found what looks like the amp but i am not sure if the speaker is hidden some were or just absent. And if it isnt their is their some way to hook up speakers in the back anyway?

Only the JBL systems have the sub, and it would be where the cargo net is. The amp you found is for the door speakers.

Welcome to the X boards!!

ONLY jbl??

Crutchfield sells an MTX sub that fits in there, too, and IIRC, another brand as well.

Sorry, that's not what I meant.
A JBL sound system was an option on 1st & 2nd gen explorers from the factory. I has a 6.5" or maybe 8" woofer where the cargo net/pocket is, powered by a relatively small amp.
Check the sticky for audio forum reference, it details all the different sound system options. Click here if you want to check it out
