94 Explorer won't move in drive!

i have a 94 ford explorer, yesterday i went to the store and it drove just fine but when i was leaving the store i went in reverse just fine, but then i tried putting it in drive it wouldn't go anywhere, and was making a loud clunking noise, so my husband came and drove it home in 2nd gear , and he said all the other gears work! is my transmission going out? or is it something a bit simpler? i'm hoping for something a bit simpler, because i cant really afford to replace the transmission... any suggestions would help

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmission section. Check your transmission fluid level. The linkage might need to be adjusted.
