I bought a 94 explorer 4.0L it runs good except for the transmission doesn't shift correctly. I have to let off of the gas pedal in order to get it to up shift into the next gears. I checked the fluid it appears to be clean and doesn't look or smell burn't. It shifts into Forward and Reverse just fine.(no clunking) any suggestions before I take it to a tranny shop would be appreciated.

Thanks 94ExplorerAZ

shift issue's

Thanks for the sugestions. I pulled the hose off of the Vacuum modulator it is indeed leaking.`I have purchased a new modulator bt cannot seem to get the old one out having hard time sticking hand under the heat shield is there any tricks to getting it out or do I have to drop the exhuast?

If you do a search, there are some recently posted pics of the bracket that first holds the heat shield in place, and then holds the modulator.

I have said it before, this is a major PITA to replace but it can be replaced from underneath.

Welcome to this forum! Adjust the bands, check the fluid level, adjust the kick down cable, and check the vacuum line going to the modulator for leaking transmission fluid.

how do you adjust the bands?
