I found a 1994 Ford Explorer that I kinda like.......The body is VERy clean and it runs well. The only problem is the gas guage doesn't work at all. Is this a hard issue to fix? Thanks In advance!

That, young grasshopper, is totally a subjective question. I could be very easy, or very hard. Would depend on WHERE the problem is. If it's a cut wire, if you can find the wire, easy.

If it's the sending unit..... could be very hard. How hard is based on what tools you own and how good you are with a wrench. If you have a deep wallet, it could be as easy as a trip to the local machanic.

Welcome to the wonderful world of wrenching on an Explorer! Easier then most newer cars, got good room to work in. Rust is your biggest issue, some of those bolts just DON'T want to turn.

I have a decent tool set, and so far I haven't run into anything too hard, and I've wrenched on it every weekend for 4 months doing something. But I also work on/build cars for a hobby...so yeah, grain of salt...

Thanks for the reply!

....not sure what I'm going to do as I was considering buying it. It's really a nice truck, just don't know if it's going to be a major PITA.

It's like 15 years old....the answer is YES, it is indeed going to be a pain in the ass! LOL

But I like working on cars, so I don't mind a bit. I'd rather spend a little money now, and small amounts of money from time to time then buy a new car for a truckload of money. In the end, it's much, much cheaper my way!

The good.... these 4.0l's run forever.... 300k is just about a little over middle aged with many of these it seems.

The better... You have a great resorce for working on these (and your on it right now) and parts are everywhere.

The worse.... The auto's are trash, many/most have to be rebuilt...often.

The not-so-bad... there are many common issues with these trucks, most are cheap and easy to fix, if you wrench. If you don't have time/tools (or can get them)/or like working on cars..... get something newer.

Otherwise.... I LOVE my truck, and will drive it till the wheels fall off. Then I'll reattach and drive it till they fall off again....
