My 94 Limited with 70k is loosing automatic transmission fluid at the rate of about 2 quarts every 1500 miles. No real leakage showing up in the driveway, must be pumping out while I'm driving. Any ideas why would be appreciated.

My 91 EB started at about 100k losing fluid out the overflow after a hard highway drive. Fluid was getting all over the back glass. Took it to a tranny shop, they said my trans was fried. They told me after the repair the the servos were hard as a rock. I just read in a previous post of some one replacing their own. They said it was real easy, and cheap. Search for servos and get the guy's name and e-mail him. Hope this helps.

My 92 has the same problem. I ended up having to get the transmission rebuilt last year at 80,000 miles. Make sure you get the fluid check more often than required. I appologise for not knowing how to fix the problem. Good luck!

I am having the same problems as the original post of this thread. I tried to do a search for servos and didn't come up with anything. If anyone can enlighten me on more information regarding loosing tranny fluid without visible signs of it, that would be WONDERFUL!

thanks

Yep, me too. I took my '92 with 93k just last weekend and did some wheeling up the side of a snowy mountain with a couple of others. They started noticing a trail of red fluid up one hill. Every time I stoped to check it out, it stopped, when I went forward under a bit of strain, it dripped a little crimson on the snow so it was real easy to see. No leaks under my parking spot either and the shop couldn't see where the leak was either. I hope someone knows what to do abou this, it's starting to freak me out. I hope to hell it's not the tranny, i've already done about $5000 in repairs in the last 6 months.

Try checking if your transmission vacuum modulator is leaking out ATF. Remove the vacuum hose at the modulator located on the right side of the transmission. If ATF is leaking out of the modulator you found your problem. The engine is sucking out Atf from the transmisssion modulator. Replace the vacuum modlator and vacuum hoses if they are swelled.

I am also loosing ATF. It only seems to happen going up Stevens pass though. This last weekend I lost over 3 quarts just going up the pass and got stranded (it was gushing out before I noticed) This has happened before going up the pass but not so severly and has never leaked in my driveway or going up MT Baker, I-5 or any where else. I did notice it leaking from the front of the tranny.

I had a problem with my explorer with loosing tranny fluid. It wasn't leaking from the tranny anywhere and it was puffing smoke whenever I started it up. I took it to Ford and they replaced the modulator valve to fix it. It all started to happen a couple of days after I changed my tranny fluid. I guess the detergents in the new fluid was enough to pack it in.

vacuum modulator was my problem.. fluid was going into the engine... eventually got so bad that it made the engine not run right... $15 fix and about an hour.. plus fluid in my 94... where exactly are the servos at though cuz I have a leak to fix in my aunt's 91..
