I have a valve cover gasket that leaks onto the exhaust manifold and I've had enough smoke. I looked under the hood and the valve covers look beat too (rusty). What do I have to pull off to get to these? Initially it looked like the intake and a few other things need to come off. Anything special I should know before I get started. Is there anyplace good to get new valve covers and is there anything else I should replace while I'm in there? Truck has 130,000 miles and I don't do much other than put gas in it.

Get the gasket from FORD

Get the gasket from Ford they have a great updated gasket that wont leak again. It costs but its worth it- Torrie at Ford Parts Network has a great price - banner at top of site or search. Get the surface really clean and use sealer only where its called for, most manuals have the torque specs- follow them. may also want to replace all of the washers under the bolts, or at least make sure they are flat.
Unless the covers are rusted through just clean them and reuse them.

While you have them off I would check the rocker arms and the pushrods. The cups of the arms tend to wear along with the tips of the pushrods . Hardened rods and cups are available.

As for the valve cover install its easy just a bunch of stuff to remove.

Thanks

I just ordered a manual. I'm a boat guy and don't mess with the old 4 strokes much. Once I get the manual and a day I'm gonna give it a shot. Guess I'll order the parts now. Mmmmmm no more sticky oil burnin Ho.
