94 XLT A4LD reverse fine no FWD.

Goes into reverse, won't go into any forward gears. You could accelerate engine, and it would go into gear, and work properly afterwards. Checked fluid level, half inch above cross-hatched area, and no leaks. fluid flushed and filter changed 1000 miles ago. Any help greatly appreciated!

Not sure I am undertanding you.... can you get forward and normal op after high revs? Or was that before and now no forward at all? I ask because the forward clutch is needed for forward. If it is burned up, you will not have forward, no matter what.

Welcome to this forum! I see that this is your first post. I had this same problem with my A4LD when my front pump gears exploded, and spread metal shavings all over the inside of the transmission. I had no forward, or reverse when the pump gears broke. When I rebuilt it, I had minimal reverse if I revved the engine to build up pressure, but no drive. The valve body was still clogged in several places from all of those fragments. Did you just develop this problem, or did you have problems all along until now?

It started with when I went to drive in engaged really soft, no noticeable clunk. Then after a 100 miles or so, I had to rev slightly to get into gear and now nothing.

If you can get pressure readings we can more accurately tell if it is hydraulic related or if your forward clutch is shot.

where do you take pressure readings from and what range should the gauge go to min. and max. Also removed pan, no shrapnel found, fluid clean and does not smell burned.
