95-96 Harness swap

[95/96 explorer]

I have been working on the harness swap on a 95 explorer with obd I to a 96 harness with obd II, Pulled the dash swaped the harness it was a straight plug in, it was a lot of work but thats the easy part.

I pulled the harness from the 95 engine and compared it to the 96 and all the wire colors were the same on all the connectors but the ends were different plastic plug ends on the 96 harness.

I found that the transmission harness was very different from 95 to 96 and I will need to source one.

I did not change the main distribution box harness on the drivers fenderwell But looking at it closer it has the OBD I connector on the front of it would this give me trouble?

Anyone done the same swap? Anyone will more knowledge could maybe lead me in the right direction to this get setup right.


EDIT: I did change the ecc to a 96 also.

More harness needed

Been reading the schematic it looks as though the power distribution harness has to to be changed too so the link with the obd ll connector will be completed. So I need to source a 96 4.0 power distribution harness. Any help on this project would be appreciated.

I'm working on a 98 into a 96 5.0 swap and am finding most of the sensors on the 98 are the same or similar to the 96 but I don't think that is going to help you much. So from your posts, I'm gathering your working on a 4.0?

Yea it's a 4.0 from a 95 and it's going in a 96 and the harness has different ends.
