I have an '95 EB which needs bearing replacement in rear-end again after only 1 1/2 years and 15K miles. I found someone with '96 Ford NOS Explorer Complete Rear Ends for a good price. Will a '96 rear end bolt right on to a '95? Also, any info on gear ratios and locking, non-locking, would be helpful. I'm unfamilair with third members and these terms are Chinesse to me.
Thanks for any info,
Robb

whats NOS mean? but the gearing could be a prob also the locker thing. if you currently have a locker/limi-slip in there you want an axle with one. but if you dont then it doesnt matter you can go wither way. but it would be better to get one locked, but thats a personal choice. it chould just bolt right up but you have to check on the gears.

NOS = New Old Stock (Old stuff but brand new) This guy has surplus complete rear ends with pumpkin, axles, hubs, even rotors w/ calipers already installed. How do I know what ratio I have? Am I locked? Unlocked? LSD? Can I interpret the VIN to give me an answer?

Thanks TarHeel085 for the link. That's a great help. BTW, what's the Bug?

But once again, Does anyone know if the complete rear end (axles, hubs, and all) physically the same between the '95 and '96. I thought all the major changes were made for '95?

95 and 96 rearends should be identical, except of course for the gears and posi.

yeah there the same all the way from '91 up but 91-94 have drum brakes. but you should be fine. do you plan on doing any off-roadin? cause if you do you might as well invest in a locker when you do this. they will just bolt right up, in theory. but nothin goes the way you planned it to.

The truck is actually a work truck(lush job), so rootin' or anything is basically out of the question. Thank you Alec, you posted so quickly, I didn't have a chance. While anybody is looking, what is the usual cause of the dreaded " Check Engine" light? Thank you again TarHeel085.

CEL causes are usually failure of a sensor in the emissions system... O2 sensors for example. If you search for CEL or Check Engine, you'll find lots of threads with lots of info and possible fixes.....
