alright, so a friend of mine has a 96 eddie bauer that we always assumed was the sohc. however, she popped the hood tonight and it doesn't say sohc and it looks like the ohv as far as i know. is this possible? i didn't even know you could get a 96 eddie without the sohc, or am i wrong? i don't really know that much about the v6 options and stuff, but i was expecting a sohc under the hood, and all it said was 4.0 efi. help will be appreciated.

Well, the SOHC wasn't even available until 1997. So, Yes, the OHV was the standard engine in 1996 unless it came with the 5.0L which was first offered in 1996. Hope this clears that up.

thanks, that clears it up perfectly. for some reason i thought that the sohc and the 5.0 as options had both first been offered in 96 at the same time. its no big deal to me, but she's gonna be pissed. i told her about the site and she's already got 31s and a torsion twist and more mods are on the way for sure, but the ohv isn't what she thought, or wanted to have.

Why is she going to be pissed due the the EB being an OHV over SOHC?? Parts issue for the lifting??? I know theres no big difference on HP/ratio (v-6).

Well hopefull to make her feel betterlet her know that she is riding in an EB (at least). lol

96_x.com,
There is a substantial difference in the 2 engines. The OHV has 160 hp while the SOHC has 205-210. But, there are many more parts available for the OHV. The OHV tends to be a bit more reliable (compared to 97-99 SOHCs), and has the needed torque for high demand situations.

So she's pissed that she doesn't get to live through the agony of her valvetrain exploding on her?

lol. i didn't say i'd be pissed, just that she will be because she always thought it was the other one. btw- i took a few pics of her engine compartment rofl, wait until i post those... its one of the funniest things i've ever seen.

if she has the money she can supercharge it:)

Hey, if she doesn't know, don't tell her... If it's never given her problems in the past, why let her know the bad news??
